CAHI Releases "Maine's Dirigo Health: A String of Broken Promises"
ALEXANDRIA, VA -- As states are
considering new programs designed to increase health coverage, it
is important to evaluate their progress. The state of Maine has implemented
Dirigo Health not only to increase health insurance access, but
to decrease health care costs. So far, the program has spent at
least $20 million, but enrolled fewer than 2,000 uninsured.
The Council for Affordable Health Insurance is
pleased to release its latest Issues and Answers paper "Maine's
Dirigo Health: A Series of Broken Promises," by Adam Brackemyre,
assistant director of government affairs for CAHI, and Tarren Bragdon,
director of health reform initiatives at the Maine Heritage Policy
Center. The new paper evaluates Dirigo Health's goals, slow
progress and high costs.
