The Regulatory and Legislative Affairs departments are responsible for tracking and analyzing federal and state legislation, and its impact on the health insurance and health care industries. A regulatory and legislative affairs intern will track legislation, analyze various health care reform proposals, attend Congressional hearings, draft letters to Members of Congress and various policy organizations, assist in the planning and implementation of Congressional briefings and write newsletter articles and CAHI member "Action Alerts." Additionally, the intern may have an opportunity to author an original research paper for CAHI. The intern will work primarily on legislative projects, but could be called on occasionally to assist other departments within the organization.
