Since our formation in 1992, The Council for Affordable Health
Insurance (CAHI) has become one of the most influential and respected
health care organizations in the country. Because our message is
not developed simply to fit the current political climate, we are
consistently recognized as the voice for free market health care
reform.
CAHI's diverse membership includes corporate members representing
the small group, individual, HSA and senior insurance markets, as
well as financial institutions, actuaries, insurance brokers, e-commerce
companies, small businesses and other associations. Our strategies,
priorities and agendas are forged by members of our association,
therefore we are uniquely able to represent the members' needs.
To learn more about CAHI's policies and how they are formed, read
our "CAHI Principles" document.
All CAHI members benefit from our three primary areas of focus
— advocacy, research and publications, and vision and leadership.
Advocacy
Recognized by federal and state policy-makers as the voice for free
market health care reform, CAHI aggressively promotes market-based
solutions to the challenges faced by the health insurance industry.
Since its inception, CAHI has played a major role in virtually every
significant debate over indemnity health insurance legislation.
CAHI advocacy is...
- Tailored to the unique needs of the fee-for-service, or traditional,
health insurance industry.
- Efficient in delivering a specific, unwavering message.
- Effective at consensus-building.
- Credible.
Research & Publications
Through solid research and peer review, CAHI publishes groundbreaking
solutions to health care policy problems. Our findings are regularly
cited by legislative offices, public policy organizations and the
media.
CAHI publications…
- Bring national visibility to CAHI member interests and concerns.
- Provide specific legislative, regulatory and policy information
critical to members’ business interests.
Vision & Leadership
We concentrate on the core of what health insurers do and the public
policy enactments that restrict or facilitate their business. Our
specific focus on "true" insurance allows us to develop
a clear platform and promote a mutually agreed upon agenda.
CAHI’s vision is...
- Promotion of the fee-for-service industry through advocacy, coalition
building, and consumer, legislator and media education.
- Driven by active member participation on taskforces and
committees.
